Seven Tips To Ensure SME Security

There are several things that need to be considered when implementing a sme security plan for small business security systems. Let’s
see each one of them:
Protection
This is the very first step in a security plan. What needs to be protected? Ok, someone may say that everything, but are there any critical areas within your organization that require a special kind of surveillance? If that’s so, consider them as potential areas for future incidents.

The second thing to consider is from whom you have to protect those areas. If we are talking about information inside a hard disk you have to think not only of a hacker, but of someone who can come and physically steal the drive.
Checklist
A security check list for small business is an excellent method to assure you that the security team is doing their job. If they don’t use a checklist, they will have to recur to their memory for remembering if something was checked or not. Since this is not a professional method of control, it is best to have a physical document that will not only serve as a tool for the ones that are checking things out, but also for any future auditing.

Keys
If you have the keys inside an organization, then you will be able to access almost all of the restricted areas. That’s why it is very important to know who has the keys besides the employees. For example, cleaning and maintenance personnel.
Backups
Doing a backup is not as simple as implementing a software solution for saving all the information of your organization. There are other things to consider about like the physical access to the backup room. Additionally, what if there is a fire? Backup discs should be fire resistant in case an incident occurs. This important item should be part of the information security policy for small business.
Basic Security Technologies
The two typical security technologies available in the market are alarms and closed circuit television (also known as CCTV). Alarms can be audio alarms or video alarms, depending on the budget and necessities of the organization. Most of the times they are integrated into a control panel from which security controls the incidents inside a building.
Personnel
Many organizations store important information within their facilities and spend a lot of money on security procedures but don’t make a basic check on the history of their personnel. Or what is worse, they pay minimum wages to the employees who manipulate it or transport it. If you are doing that, change it as soon as possible.

New Security Products

Nowadays, technology advances at unbelievable rates. That’s why you need to be up to date on the different services and products that the market offers. So, in case a new, cheaper system appears, you will be able to exploit it; giving your organization an advantage over any delinquent.

Now you know that small business video security should be a complement and not the only method for managing security within your organization. It is in your company’s best interest to study, adequately, the security requirements from every area. Small business security systems should be an integrated array of devices that work together for the same goal.
